"Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." - George S. Patton
Do you think General Patton would have been a great homeschool Dad? Ah, we'll never know, but his words in this quote might ring true for many homeschoolers. TM : )
"Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." - George S. Patton I like this quote. Something to think about as you start your week. TM : )
"Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change." -Stephen Hawking Homeschool encouragement... hmmmm... I'm not feeling it today. How about my view on why teaching your kids history is so important instead? There has been so much going on in our crazy world that I have not thought about writing encouragement and I have been thinking about current events only and what it means to us. I am a big fan of getting information from all different sources and I encourage my kids to do the same. History is so important as the more you know, the less likely you will be fooled. The media tries to fool us all the time. So how do we know which news source is correct? By knowing your history!
I am so fortunate to have a husband that has majored in world history. He helps me decipher the news by letting me know who is telling the truth and who isn't based on his knowledge of the past. He also is able to explain why certain policies make sense, and why others will never work based on that country's history. I'm always appreciative when he gives me his views, as, well, I didn't care for history much when I was a kid, but now as an adult, I realize how important it really is. So get out the history books (I am) and read a few biographies on some of our greatest thinkers from the past (this too!). With what's happening in our world today, let's teach our children to move forward and not to repeat history. TM : ) "If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience." George Bernard Shaw Irish dramatist & socialist (1856 - 1950) Even when you don't feel like it (me), take a deep breath, and keep on going! Maybe a change of scenery for a new view. Yes, a new view is good and it is always inspiring for me to get fresh ideas that make me excited which of course always gets the kids going. So take a different route, maybe a new adventure will ensue. I'm going to! TM : )
"If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it." - Mary Engelbreit I came across this quote this morning and thought of those homeschool Moms that are just about at the end of their rope...
"When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place." - Author Unknown Keep going, look at how smart your children are. Keep breathing, and know that this time that you have taken with your children will never be forgotten by you, or them. TM : ) “It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"
~Winnie the Pooh As a homeschool Mom, let me rephrase that, as a Mom I want my kids to do the best they can. I'm constantly reminding them that they can do anything they want, anything they can dream up, they can do it. Be the best you can, be untouchable. I use these words often. We are our children's guide. Not just their teacher, not just their parent, but their visionaries for their future. We help them see the big picture. So think big and your children will too. Do the best you can for them and they will always remember that and they will follow your lead.
Abraham Lincoln said it best... "Whatever you are, be a good one." TM : ) All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!
Lucy Van Pelt- In Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz Happy Valentine's Day! TM : ) Just a reminder... tell your kids that they can become anything they want to be. Because they can and you're helping them. TM : )
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. - Harriet Tubman |
